9 Unusual Ways to Find More Time In Your Day

Do you ever look at some people and think, how do they do it all?  How do they find the time to get it all done?

You have a long list of things you want to do, right?  You want to keep practicing taking awesome pictures, learn more editing techniques, start working on creating a business, read these blog posts to help you get even better (?)

But then you also have a list of the things you HAVE to do.  Take care of the kids, go to work, go to school, finish the laundry, …(Ok, this list could could on a loooong time, but you get the point)

People might tell you things like, just don’t watch tv at night  OR get up an hour earlier. But, hey, I get it, that’s easier said than done. (I know if I wake up earlier…so do all my kids)

One of the most frequent questions people ask me that is NOT photography related is “How do you find the time to do it all?”  Truthfully, I don’t get it all done, but I have figured out some less common ways to get more done, be more purposeful and feel like you have MORE time.  I want to share them with you (and they’re probably not what you think!)

  1. Watch Netflix

  2. Sleep In

  3. Take A Long Shower

  4. Go To Bed Earlier

  5. Forget the Laundry

  6. Go Out to Eat

  7. Take a Deep Breath

  8. Have a Glass of Wine

  9. Play Around on Your Phone

So the biggest takeaway here is, take that time for yourself.  The more you try to constantly cram things into your day and get done all of the things on that “to do” list, the less you’ll actually get done.  You’ll feel burned out, be less productive and at the end of the day you’ll be thinking “where did the time go?”

Now I’m not saying the sleep in until noon and then binge watch Netflix the rest of the day while ordering pizza.

What I am saying is this.  When you allow yourself to take small mind breaks and not feel guilty about watching tv for an hour in the evening or mindlessly surfing through your phone for a half an hour or leaving that last load of laundry for the next day, your brain will feel more rested, you will be happier and in turn be more productive to make your way through that “to do” list.

You’ll be amazed how much more “time” you’ll have in the day, when you allow yourself to just take a short break (and feel ok about it) .  Afterwards you’ll be more productive at all those things to do!

I do always have a long “to do” list. I could just constantly keep at it, crossing one more thing off.  BUT there is always more to be added, it will never be complete.   I’m productive with my time and I know that at the end of the day I will let myself relax, pour some wine and enjoy some Netflix with my husband. This is my secret to getting more done.

So, what will you be watching tonight? ?Let me know in a comment below or let us know what you do that helps you relax and regroup so that you are more productive!
