Five Unique Places To Take Portraits: Friday Five List

Fun and unique place to take portraits

Looking for a creativity boost, or maybe you are just tired of shooting in the same type of locations over and over again. This week’s Friday Five is a quick list of locations you might not have thought of before to shoot portraits in. So grab one of your kids to help you model and try out one of these unique places to take pictures at today! Do YOU have an idea for the Friday Five? See how you can submit an idea to be published here!

  1. Your Garage

Fantastic for open shade lighting and no need to clean it up (if yours is as messy as mine is 😉 Simply set your aperture wide (low f stop number) to blur out any mess! (You can see exactly how I shot portraits in my garage here!)

  1. The side of a parking lot

Sounds weird, I know, but I have found myself seeing some of the coolest trees, bushes and flowers that are planted near the edges of parking lots. ( I actually shoot like this A LOT) Really pay attention to that next time you’re out and about. Below is a picture of a parking lot I pulled up in one day and the photo that I ended up taking at this exact location. See those purple flowers in the buses to the left. That’s where I placed my subject in the final image!

Great locations to take picturesNew and unusual spots to take photos

  1. The produce section of a grocery store

Lots of gorgeous, bright colors from the entire rainbow and usually pretty well lit!

  1. A Junkyard

Make sure to get permission first, but usually you can find a HUGE variety of colors, textures and unusual looking backgrounds to choose from!

  1. A Nursery

No, not where babies are silly! But a plant and garden nursery! You could even check out your local Home Depot or Lowe’s nursery. It’s like a beautiful forest and garden all around you!
