Trash the Dress & Little Girls in Mom’s Wedding Gown

Two session ideas MASHED together!

Little girls always want to play dress up.  The fancier the dress, the more accessories and the most make up THE BETTER!  What is really the ultimate in dress up for a little girl?  Dressing up like mommy!  And to make that even better- in mommy’s wedding gown!  Little girls playing wedding dress up is a super fun session idea for mom’s and their daughters to participate in together, and also take home an adorable picture selection to have when their little girl is not so little anymore.  (Just thing how fun it will be to share these at her wedding?!?)

For this session, I took the idea and kicked it up a notch.  My youngest daughter not only likes to dress up, but is also quite the artist- and quite the little mess maker.  Since I had never done a “Trash the Dress” with my own gown, I thought I’d let HER do that for me as a special treat (and since it is so fitting to her personality).  For those of you unaware of what a “trash the dress” session is- it is basically an artistic and beautiful way of photographing the bride trashing her gown once she is already married.

So here is where it gets fun! Bring on the paint and let the wedding gown be the canvas.  She was sooo into this(I have to admit I was too)  It was fun watching her create and be a little mischievous at the same time.

Her older sister assisted me with the shoot and had just as much fun watching her sister trash the dress!  She also had a little girl in mom’s dress session a few years back.  Hers was a little more fragile and dainty which fit her personality.  You can check her wedding gown session out here.

Now, I know that these types of sessions aren’t for everyone.  In fact, photos from my older daughter’s wedding dress up session went viral in a few places and while I got many compliments from some, I got an equal amount of angry and nasty comments and messages from others.  I get that everyone has their own views, but the intent of this session and others I have done similar are just in pure innocent fun and meant to create a bond between mother and daughter and also a super fun memory that they can share together forever!
